BostonWorks redesign, July 2006

Lead User Interface(UI)/User Experience(UX) designer for redesign of BostonWorks.com, a job classified section in Boston.com. Coordinating all aspects of the redesign with product manager. Collaborating with all parties involved, such as the editorial managers, developer, content producers, sales, promotions, and advertising while advocating for the best usability and user experience for the visitors of the web site. Responsible for visual design of the website from concept to the final product. Conducted user research and usability testing.Created templates and styleguide, Coded html/css (working with a developer). developed and customized look and feel of third-party web applications. The redesign was successfully launched in July 2006.

Homepage

Concentrated on the users’ need, why a user come to this site?: To find a job. Determined that there are three ways to find a job: Search, By location (or commute), and Industry. We made those choices prominent while increasing an ad space right next to it, and moved editorial content to the right of the page. (Click on the screen shots to enlarge to actual size)



Industry page

We determined that industry pages are important, so we made a home page for each of the top industries: Biotechnology, Education K-12, Finance, Healthcare, Higher Ed., Hospitality/Retail, Legal, or or Technology. I gave each a simple but unique homepage feel by creating a custom images.
